One of Whitstable’s longest-running eateries, Birdies has been serving up a menu of fresh, locally-sourced British and European fare since 1993. Run by Philip and Sue’s family team, Birdies offers a range of fresh fish seafood dishes, including fantastic crab, lobster and sea bass, alongside some of Whitstable’s best oysters from local shellfish specialists West Whelks, and a remarkable bouillabaisse. Which is not to suggest that your choice at Birdies is limited to the catch of the day: the beef wellington is succulent and tender, and several cheeseboards include some superb blue cheeses sourced from Cranbrook’s Cheeseworks. And if you’re looking for the perfect tipple to complement your meal, Birdies offers an excellent wine list with an emphasis on new world wines, as well as a great selection of ciders and real ales from the Shepherd Neame Brewery.
